Welding Lines stiffness in Loaded Plastics Components @ Burst Conditions

Caridi Domenica Alessia - Magneti Marelli

Abstract

Present work aims to give general guidelines to obtain values in stresses near to real operative conditions in case of Burst Pressure Test in Automotive Field. FEM results are correlated with experimental tests to obtain a more realistic correspondence between ideal 3D simulated model and real cases. In such optics we have preferred consider three real case which make in account the whole range of problems due possible range of real problems in phase of design, industrialization and production to have an answer by FEM analysis which is nearer as possible to real response. In particular we have analyzed three case studies:

  1. One manufacture in which we have an high pressure combined with a pressure life test very onerous.
  2. One manufacture in which pressure no have excessive onerous values, but post molding deformations have relevant importance in final tests (Reverse Engineering/Manufacturing due to bit thickness in welding lines).
  3. One manufacture in which we have a normal level in pressure but excessive thickness in welding lines gives problems in stiffness of component.

Besides a series of FEM models are make in account importance of localization in welding lines position inner possible zone. Every FEM Analysis, with relative results, are compared with experimental results and in this work is possible to have an overview of these three case and correspondent real cases.
