High-Fidelity Multi-Physics Simulations: from Research to Industrial Applications |
Iaccarino Gianluca - Cascade Technologies and Stanford University (USA) |
Abstract |
Multi-scale applications, such as low-emission combustion processes and low-noise design, require advanced predictive capabilities and a level of accuracy well beyond that provided by today’s flow simulations tools. A direct representation of the dynamic evolution of the large-scale motions is the key to a realistic description of the relevant physical process. Large Eddy Simulations (LES) pioneered at Stanford University in the 70s has become a fundamental research tool yielding formidable insights into the controlling physics of many engineering phenomena. In spite of increased popularity in Academia, high-fidelity simulations not yet achieved wide-spread use in industry. |
