Tyre Set-up for Commercial Vehicle Multibody Model: modeFRONTIER as a Calibration Tool |
Bianco Roberto - Iveco (Italy) |
Abstract |
Multibody models are an important CAE tool in Iveco for assessing vehicle comfort, resistance and handling since the earliest development stages. In order to make significant predictions a good numerical-experimental correlation is needed: to this purpose one of the main parts to calibrate is the tyre model. In this work we describe our experience in Iveco in calibrating an Ftyre model for fatigue and comfort evaluation. Ftyre is a semiphysical model which characterise tyre behaviour through physical parameters (natural frequencies, damping, friction etc.). The parameters however are numerous and their interactions are hard to predict. We decided then to use modeFRONTIER since it is an easy-to-use tool to perform a multi-objective optimization. In each design we compared force, acceleration and stroke signals obtained by calculus against the signals measured on different tracks. The results were outstanding, since we achieved both optimal correlation and insight on the functioning of the ftyre model in a very limited time. In conclusion, the use of modeFRONTIER increased dramatically the accuracy of our models, crushing development time and saving money and effort. |
